Screengrab 0.96.1 pending…
Screengrab, releases March 6th, 2009
A minor release to address the complaints of Screengrab 0.96 not working at all on pages with Flash or Java Applets!
This affects people with Java versions 6u10 & 6u11 and is due to an issue Sun introduced with the release of the new Java Plugin. This is fixed in 6u12 and is therefore a highly recommended Java update.
If Screengrab 0.96.1 detects either of these broken versions of Java it will play it safe and pretend that Java is disabled instead of silently failing.

Hi there,
I think it is not only limited to JAVA versions of 6u10 and 6u11.
I use the portable firefox v3.08pre.
The Sreeengrab v0.96 works like a charm if Java version is 6u2, however, it doesnot in Java versions from 6u3 to 6u11 even in the 6u12.
I got the problems such as no response, the image is ok except the java part, the image has the pink shadow while using selection capture, and the delay to response the option of window capture in those Java versions.
The Screengrab once was one of the most superb addons, at least I think so. Hope it will be again soon. Thanks.

Thanks for putting this comment over here. I saw your comments on AMO before. This is a much better place to put this stuff, now I can ask questions about it!
Can you be more specific about which issues are happening where and when? Can you also let me know what OS you’re using?
Java 6u10 and 11 will cause SG to not do anything when there’s Java or Flash on the page. Nothing. It willl just silently fail. I’ve tested this with various versions of Java on Windows XP and Ubuntu. It actually always works on Linux and fails on Windows for those two versions of Java only. I don’t have a new enough Mac to test Java 6 on it, so I’m just hoping that it works there. This is just avoided in 0.96.1.
The occasional bit of pink on grabs of Java and Flash is to do with a missing timeout between clicking the link and grabbing the page. Not enough time is allowed for the style to change and remove the pink. I put in the timeout in 0.96.1.
“The image is okay except the java part”. When does this happen? Do you mean it’s missing or its pink?
What do you mean by “the delay to response the option of window capture in those Java versions.” Do you mean that there’s a delay between selecting grab and actually getting the save dialog? It’s probably loading Java. It ALWAYS uses Java to capture the whole browser window. There’s no other way. Is it slow every time or just the first time?

Many thanks for your quick response.
The OS I use is W2K sp4, a quite old window version.
I am totally agree on that 6u10 and 6u11 is the main reason to cause SG v0.96 fails to function in Java part sometimes.
Yes, the delay is between selecting grab and actually getting the save dialog. AND it is definitely caused by loading Java.
So, The new version of SG is very expected.

Many thanks for your great efforts.
The SG v0.96.1 works great like before.
I tested it via Yahoo Stock.

BTW, the delay is gone when npjp2.dll and npdeploytk.dll put into the plugins directory under data folder of portable firefox

Hmm… I have no idea what those dlls actually do. But glad it’s all working for you again.
Many thanks for the feedback!

G’day,
v0.96 and v0.96.1 are working great, no problemo! (no delays)
But, I noticed that the size of the image in the screen has to be the right one. Otherwise, you get the java bits all messed up when saving complete page or frame. Or, you don’t get the “save dialog” at all. Probably this can be frustrating for some users until they worked out that the size (zoom in and out, Ctrl + and Ctrl-) of the image page in the monitor has to be right. In a 23″ monitor you would like to use, and normally use a big image. Well, for me, I have to decrease the size a bit, so I don’t get the .gpeg with inaccurate renditions of the java bits. (same in v.96.1)
So, there is nothing wrong with SG. The problem for me was in the page size, or zoom % level. Is this the same problem that the person named “Nobody” is having?
Java v6U12
XP Pro sp3
Mozilla 3.0.7
monitor 23″
Thanks so much for this great addon!

Aaah!! That’s very interesting, and one I’ve never considered before. I’ll take a look and get back to you on it. Now I need to figure out how to programatically mess with that stuff too!

I still get pink images when using SG on flash images using 0.96.1 and Java SE 6U12 and Firefox 3.0.7. The website I was looking at was http://www.susielinquist.com/index2.php?v=v2#/gallery1/1/
Any ideas on what went wrong? Thanks!!!

Feature request:
Can you make a “delay” checkbox/setting so I can request a grab and then go open a dropdown menu, for instance?
Thanks for this excellent program!

@Pete I’d say that I just didn’t make it sleep for long enough. Unfortunately I don’t think that’s a configurable value. My bad. I’ll sort it out for another minor release.
@Dave That seems like a reasonable request. I think it’s on the list of things to do. If not I’ll put it there.

Hi,
Would be awesome to see the features you want to do in a near future. Maybe a post with “Future Work” or something like that.
Thank You.

Hi, I’m just wondering if you’re planning on making Screengrab compatible with Firefox 3.5b4 (formerly 3.1bx)? Thanks in advance for your answer.
May 9th, 2009 at 3:03 am
Well, either Firefox’s update warning was/is wrong, or you’re pretty quick.
I’m guessing the latter… thanks either way!

I have the latest version of Screengrab and my Mac software is up to date (Software Update) but I can’t capture pages with Flash. Any ideas as to how I can get this going again?
